Elections of deputies of local Councils of Deputies
ANNOUNCEMENT
of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus on the elections of deputies to local Councils of Deputies of the twenty-ninth convocation
On February 25, 2024, Belarus held elections to local Councils of Deputies of the twenty-ninth convocation. All 1,284 local Councils of Deputies were elected as competent bodies.
Voter turnout across the Republic of Belarus was 73.1%: in the city of Minsk – 61.5; in Brest region – 76.2; in Vitebsk region – 75.6; in Gomel region – 75.9; in Grodno region – 76.9; in Minsk region – 74.2; in Mogilev region – 77.
At the same time, voter turnout in the elections to Regional Councils of Deputies was 75.8 %; to District Councils – 78.2; City Councils (cities of regional subordination) – 71.4; City Councils (cities of district subordination) – 77.1; Settlement Councils – 72.7; Rural Councils – 81.7.
In the total amount of deputies, 47.7 percent are women, 50 percent of the deputies are reelected for another term in office, 3.2 percent are deputies under the age of 31, and 30.4 percent are deputies representing political parties. 15 deputies are citizens of the Russian Federation permanently residing in the Republic of Belarus and having the right to participate in elections.
Among the elected deputies, 29.6 percent work in science, education, healthcare, culture and sports, while 18.5 percent – in state bodies, 17.1 percent – in agriculture, 10.2 percent – in industrial, transport and construction companies, 5.4 percent – in trade, consumer services, housing and public utility companies, 3.7 percent are employed at law enforcement and emergency agencies and in the military, 1.5 percent are entrepreneurs, 11.4 percent represent other professional spheres, 2.2 percent are pensioners and 0.6 percent are unemployed.
